History

1927 a group of leading businessmen and gentlemen from the legal profession met at the Duke of Richmond Hotel (www.dukeofrichmond.com) for the purpose of forming the Guernsey Bowling Club.  A first set of rules which had previously been drawn up by a sub committee were presented and approved.  The Guernsey Bowling Club started with 47 members enrolling.  The first President was Mr H G Wheadon and the first Secretary was Mr E O Cohu.

The States Recreation Committee organised grassland at the Cambridge Park to be used as a practice green, awaiting for the bowling green to be prepared.  The Beau Sejour complex now stands on this land.  The official bowling green was finally opened on the 2nd July 1927, visitors could play if introduced by a  member for a fee of 1/- the annual subscription for a member was 5/-.

The Singles Trophy was presented by Mr C T Elliott of Bournemouth and the Fours Trophy was presented by Messers Sandeman (Bucktrout) these were presented to the Guernsey Bowling Association in 1928 for use as the Men's Island Championship trophies.  These were later presented in 2004 to the Bowls Guernsey Association the new Association for the government of Bowls within the Island.
